Greythumb Netherlands : Podcast
« Greythumb Netherlands @ Studio Acht Architects | Main | Opening Triangles to Grow the Tetrahelix » Posted by at 12:18 PM in History
This is a podcast episode dedicated to the Greythumb Netherlands meeting from last friday night. It starts with introductions of all the GTNL participants.
It doesn't contain all of the audio because that would have been tedious due to the visual nature of much of the evening. We looked at all sorts of cool examples of cellular automata, including ones with construction arms which were able to replicate themselves. Langton and Codd examples of self-replicating automata were very interesting to explore in the group, and it caused some interesting discussion and I think a few insights for the people there.
Fortunately I could pass control over to Artem Baguinski, who was very much more familiar with the intricacies and nuance of all the historical examples of cellular automata. He demonstrated them working step-by-step, and showed the various techniques employed to construct the examples.
The last section has me holding up Wolfram's "A New Kind of Science" to show the remarkably interesting examples of how simple rules and simple initial conditions can lead to complex results.
